River the Squirrel?

"Look, Mom! I'm the Headless Horsedog! I don't need to actually WEAR a costume, right?"

"Wait, you're dressing up too? Well... I guess I can wear something, if you are..."

I tagged along trick-or-treating with my friends and their kids as Little Red Riding Hood (I carried dog treats in a basket, heh). The wolf dressed up as a squirrel. I so wish I'd been able to put together a grandmother type costume for her to wear instead, but I didn't think about it until last minute. -_-;

She's adorable :)

What sort of dog is River? I've seen many that look like her, so I guess it's a well-known breed? But I'm afraid I know next to nothing about dogs other than that they're the most fun animal ever.

She's an Alaskan Malamute :) It's similar to a Siberian Husky, but heavier built.

Ooh! A good friend of mine once had a Malamute. She told me they're particularly fond of people, as dogs go, but they're remarkably stubborn and difficult to train. Has that been your experience? I suppose she can't be that stubborn if you managed to dress her up as a squirrel ...

That is a very accurate description of her :D Standard of the breed: stubbornness! It usually manifests in the form of "Why?" whenever I ask her to do anything.

She was happy with her costume once I had it on her and she got bored of trying to chew on it. Chasing after children and trying to sneak her head into their candy buckets took precedence :)

She's growing fast! And I hope that stubbornness grows out of her as the months go, my dog (golden retriever) was a bit of an annoying brat when she was young. But now she's grown more quiet and she listens a bit more than she used to hehe (she's almost 4 years now)

They need to be stubborn...
If they blindly followed their masters, they could fall of cliffs, and things when they were being used as mushing dogs.
The stubborn was bread into them, so they could form their own opinion, you know.. like not going headlong into an ice crack of death.

Or just walking over a patch of ice they don't feel is safe under their paws, but the musher doesn't know about through all the snow :)
